The aim of mechanical design is to design the best machinery under various limited conditions (such as material, processing capability, theoretical knowledge and computational means, etc.) to make optimum design.

Optimization design requires a comprehensive consideration of a number of requirements, generally: the best working performance, minimum manufacturing cost, minimum size and weight, the most reliable in use, the most low consumption and the least environmental pollution. These requirements are often contradictory, and their relative importance varies depending on the type and purpose of the machine. Mechanical design can be divided into new design, inheritance design and variant design 3 categories.

1. New design

The use of mature science and technology or experiments proved to be a feasible new technology, the design of the past has not been a new type of machinery.

2. Inheriting design

Design updates to existing machines based on experience and technical development to improve performance, reduce manufacturing costs, or reduce the cost of use.

3. Variant design

In order to adapt to the new need to modify the existing mechanical parts or additions and deletions to develop different from the standard type of variant products.

Main process

1, according to user orders, market needs and new scientific research to develop design tasks.

2. Preliminary design. This includes the determination of the working principle and the basic structure of the machine, the movement design, the structural design and the preliminary general drawing and the preliminary review.

3. Technical design. This includes the modification of the design (based on the opinion of the preliminary examination), the drawing of all parts and the new master chart and the second review.

4. Work drawing design. Including the final modification (based on the second opinion), drawing all the work drawings (such as part drawings, assembly drawings and General Assembly drawings, etc.), the development of all technical documents (such as parts table, vulnerable parts list, use instructions, etc.).

5, stereotyped design. Machinery for mass or mass production. For some design tasks relatively simple (such as simple mechanical design, general mechanical design or variant design, etc.) mechanical design can omit the preliminary design procedures.
